You're gonna love Auto Carts!

ou're concerned about protecting the environment and keeping your neighborhood clean. So are we. These priorities, along with efforts to promote long-employment opportunities and to provide the highest levels of service, have led Waste Management Inc. of Florida to implement an automated waste collection system. The company wants to bring residents of unincorporated Brevard County its high-quality collection system, called Auto Cart Waste Collection Service, which is currently available to residents in beachside communities and the city of Cocoa. Recent surveys of Brevard County residents on the Auto Cart pilot program show 90 percent of respondents in favor of continuing and expanding the service
throughout unincorporated Brevard County.

mong the advantages of Auto Cart Waste Collection Service for unincorporated Brevard County residents:

Convenience
Each 64-gallon rolling cart (designed for senior citizens) holds as much waste as two traditional garbage cans. Each 96-gallon rolling cart holds as much waste as three traditional garbage cans. Residents who live in planned communities will be provided one space-efficient, 64-gallon container, which has a width similar to regular trash cans.

There's no lifting required -- the cart features large wheels and handles, making the cart simple to maneuver.

▪ Both carts can be used for household garbage or yard waste.

Cleanliness
▪ Auto cart service improves your neighborhood's appearance because there are fewer containers and no unsightly bags at the curb.

▪ The design of the fully automated side-loader trucks prevents trash and yard debris from blowing out while carts are being emptied, protecting local waterways and ecosystems.

▪ Attached lids minimize odor and keep out animals and pests.

Cost-Effectiveness
▪ One 64-gallon cart and one 96-gallon cart will be delivered to your home free of charge.

▪ Additional carts are available for $70 each. Similar containers are available at home improvement stores for $70-$90. These carts are compatible with Waste Management's equipment.

▪ Waste Management is responsible for the maintenance of the carts at the company's cost.

▪ Brevard County's residential collection rate is one of the most competitive in the state and within the county. Effective Oct. 1, 2008, service fees will increase just $2.53 to $11.65 per month due to increased costs for fuel and commodities, with a 3.8 percent increase each year thereafter to adjust for inflation and fuel prices. With Waste Management's 24 available collections per month, that equals just 48 cents per pickup! Brevard County's 2008 rate of $11.65 is one of the lowest rates available within the tri-county (Brevard, Orange and Osceola) area for
automated and manual collection, compared with these areas' 2007 rates.

Expanded Recycling Program

esidents of unincorporated Brevard County also will participate in an expanded recycling program.

The following items are recyclable in the new program (bold items are in current recycle program):

Paper: magazines, phone books, corrugated cardboard, bags, junk mail, envelopes, catalogs, cereal boxes, soda and beer boxes, newspaper, glossy newspaper inserts, circulars, toilet paper and paper towel rolls, milk and juice cartons

Plastics: items with "necks" only, numbers 1 through 7 (check bottom of container for #)

Glass bottles: brown, green, clear

Aluminum, steel and tin cans: beverage, food, pet food
